The Citi® Double Cash Card , from our partner Citi, is a top-notch cashback card that also offers a lengthy intro APR period on balance transfers. Whether you’re looking to earn flat-rate cash back on every purchase or save on interest charges with a long intro APR period to pay off debt transferred from another card, the Citi® Double Cash Card is a good credit card to consider.
We’ll break down where this card stands out, where it falls short, and compare it to another option for those who need to transfer a balance.

Great flat-rate rewards
This card is the leader when it comes to flat-rate cashback cards. You’ll earn 2% on every purchase with unlimited 1% cash back when you buy, plus an additional 1% as you pay for those purchases. The cash back you earn from paying your bill is a great incentive to pay your statement in full as soon as possible so you can enjoy your cash back quicker. And there are no rotating bonus categories or caps on how much you can earn, so this card is straightforward and simple to use. Cash back can be redeemed as a statement credit, by direct deposit, as a check, or converted to Citi ThankYou points.
Long intro APR period for balance transfers
The Citi® Double Cash Card offers an intro APR of 0% for 18 months on balance transfers. After, a 16.24% - 26.24% (variable) APR applies.
$0 annual fee
With a $0 annual fee, all the cash back you earn with this card is a net gain (as long as you don’t incur interest charges or other fees).
Citi Entertainment access
With this card you can get exclusive access to entertainment events including concerts, sporting events, dining events and more.
3% foreign transaction fee
Because the Citi® Double Cash Card charges a 3% foreign transaction fee, you’ll want to leave it at home when traveling outside the United States. Opt for a card with no foreign transaction fee instead.
No intro APR period for purchases
This card lacks an intro APR for purchases, which most balance transfer cards offer. Therefore, if you plan on financing a big purchase, the Citi® Double Cash Card isn’t a good choice.
You don't earn 2% back immediately
With this card, you’ll earn 2% on every purchase with unlimited 1% cash back when you buy, plus an additional 1% as you pay for those purchases. Note that you don’t get the second half of your cash back until you pay what you’ve charged to the card. Meanwhile, competing flat-rate cards such as the Fidelity® Rewards Visa Signature® Card and the PayPal Cashback Mastercard® earn full cash back upon purchase.
A balance transfer with the Citi® Double Cash Card cannot exceed your available credit limit. This includes the total amount of your balance transfer plus balance transfer fees. Note that there is an intro balance transfer fee of 3% of each transfer (minimum $5) completed within the first 4 months of account opening. A balance transfer fee of 5% of each transfer ($5 minimum) applies if completed after 4 months of account opening.
For example, if your credit limit is $10,000, your transfer cannot exceed $9,709 because there would be a $291 balance transfer fee. Also note that you must complete your balance transfer within four months from account opening to enjoy the intro 0% APR period.
Here’s how to complete your balance transfer online:
Like the Citi® Double Cash Card , the Chase Slate Edge℠ offers a long intro APR on balance transfers. However, the card also comes with an intro APR on purchases.
Cardholders receive a 0% Intro APR on Balance Transfers for 18 months. Note, there is a balance transfer fee of either $5 or 3% of the amount of each transfer, whichever is greater in the first 60 days. After, either $5 or 5% of the amount of each transfer, whichever is greater.
The Chase Slate Edge℠ also offers a 0% Intro APR on Purchases for 18 months.
Cardholders receive an automatic review of your account for a potentially higher credit limit after you spend $500 on the card within the first six months, provided your payments have been made on time. And if you spend at least $1,000 on your card within a year (and you pay on time), you may also be automatically considered for an APR reduction of up to 2%.

If you want to earn cash back on new purchases without rotating categories, the Citi® Double Cash Card has one of the best flat-rate cashback programs on the market. Additionally, this card is a good option if you have credit card debt and need a while to pay it off interest-free by means of a balance transfer.
While we don’t recommend making new charges once you’ve done a balance transfer, after you pay off any transferred debt the cashback program makes the Citi® Double Cash Card worth keeping in your wallet.
