The Wells Fargo Reflect® Card is our top pick for the overall best 0% APR credit card, due to its lengthy intro periods. It comes with a long intro APR on both purchases and balance transfers — as well as the opportunity to earn an extension on your intro APR through responsible card usage — and charges a reasonable balance transfer fee. Plus, the annual fee is $0.
Whether you’re planning a big purchase that will take months to pay off, or you need to transfer a balance from a high-interest credit card to help you get out of debt faster, a credit card offering a 0% introductory APR can be a useful tool. We’ll help you identify the best 0% APR credit card with an intro APR period that works for you.
During the intro period, 100% of each payment will go toward the principal of your debt, rather than toward interest charges plus the principal owed.
Based on our research of cards available through LendingTree, as well as top cards offered by major issuers, we’ve selected numerous cards with 0% intro APR periods ranging from 12 to 21 months. It’s also important to know that most cards offering longer balance transfer intro periods will typically charge a 3% to 5% balance transfer fee.
In addition, when transferring a balance, make sure to select a credit card from a different issuer than your existing card — you won’t be able to transfer balances between two cards from the same issuer.

Simply put, the Wells Fargo Reflect® Card is an excellent credit card for anyone who needs a long period with no interest. As long as you’re making your payments on time — which you should do with any intro APR card, as late payments can cause you to lose the promotional period — this card offers the chance to get the initial 18-month period extended by up to three additional months.
Whether you’re planning a large purchase or need to transfer debt from a non-Wells Fargo card, this card is a great option. However, be aware that if you’ve opened any other Wells Fargo credit card in the past 15 months, you might not be eligible for this card’s intro APR offer. Know as well that if you’ve opened any other Wells Fargo credit card in the past six months, you might not be approved for this card at all.

The BankAmericard® credit card offers a decent sign-up bonus: You can earn a $100 statement credit online bonus after making at least $1,000 in purchases in the first 90 days of account opening. So, this card is a good choice if you need a long intro APR on purchases and would like to earn a bonus along the way. It also comes with a long intro APR on balance transfers and charges a reasonable balance transfer fee.
In addition, if you can’t pay off your balance off in full during the intro period, it’s good to note the regular APR starts a bit lower than some competing cards. If your regular APR is set toward the lower end of the range, you could save money on interest charges during those months you have to roll over a balance.

A card offering a 0% intro APR on new purchases can be helpful when you need time to pay off a big-ticket item, as it offers a period of time where no interest charges are added to your balance. Whether it’s remodeling a bathroom or fixing your car’s transmission, using a long 0% intro APR credit card is an easy way to stretch out your payments over time without paying interest.
Once the intro period expires, any balance remaining will be subject to the ongoing APR.
A balance transfer card allows you a break from interest charges while you pay off debt transferred from another credit card. When you do a balance transfer to a 0% intro APR card, that gives you a window of time when the entire payment goes toward the principal of your debt, rather than the principal plus interest. You may have to pay a balance transfer fee on the amount transferred (there are cards with no balance transfer fees, but they are rare), but that fee may be worth it if you save more in interest than you pay to make the transfer.
If you’re looking for a way to consolidate debt for a longer period of time than these cards offer, consolidating debt with a personal loan might be a better option for you than opening a balance transfer credit card.
When using a credit card, you generally incur interest charges on any balance that isn’t paid off by the payment due date. But if you have a card with an intro APR period, you get a certain number of months at a reduced interest rate, or with no interest at all. A card may offer an intro APR period on purchases, balance transfers or both. Once the intro period ends, you’ll incur interest at the regular APR.
If you need to finance a big purchase, a credit card with an intro APR period on purchases can allow you to pay off the purchase over time without being charged interest. And if you need to move high-interest debt on one card to a balance transfer card with an intro APR period, that can give you some relief from interest charges and let you work on paying down just the principal of your debt instead of the principal plus interest.
Yes, intro APR and deferred interest are two different types of promotional periods. With deferred interest, if you don’t pay off the balance in full by a certain date, you’ll owe back interest from the date of purchase. Deferred interest deals are often promoted on store cards.
With an intro APR offer, you’ll only be charged interest on any remaining unpaid balance after the intro APR period ends.
Yes, it is possible to find a card that doesn’t charge a balance transfer fee. However, those tend to come with shorter promotional periods. For a balance transfer card with a long promotional period, you will most likely end up having to pay a fee ranging from 3% to 5% of the amount transferred, which is then added to your balance.
This will depend on your issuer. Some issuers allow cardholders to transfer up to their new balance transfer card credit limit, minus the amount of the balance transfer fee. Other issuers impose caps on how much you can transfer. The best way to find out is to call the issuer before you apply to see what the balance transfer limits are.
Typically, balance transfer cards require good credit (a FICO Score of at least 670) or better to qualify for. If you have poor or fair credit, you may not qualify for a balance transfer card.
Yes, your credit score will likely impact your card’s regular APR (the APR that kicks in once the intro APR ends). In short, the better your credit score, the lower your APR is likely to be.
The most important criterion in compiling this list of 0% intro APR credit cards was that each card should offer a 0% intro APR period. Some cards offer intro periods on both purchases and balance transfers, while others only offer an intro period for one or the other.
In addition, whether or not the card charges a balance transfer fee — and if so, how much — was also considered. Whether or not the card has a sign-up bonus or welcome offer also weighed in the evaluation process.
Other helpful features were also considered, such as ongoing rewards programs and benefits such as cellphone protection.
Finally, none of the credit cards on this list charge an annual fee.
